Expanded Metal Mesh

One-Piece Construction for Strength, Ventilation & Precision Applications

Standard Expanded Mesh for Industrial Flooring & Guarding | Micron Expanded Mesh for Filtration, Shielding & High-Precision Applications

Expanded metal mesh is a rigid, one-piece sheet material produced by simultaneously slitting and stretching metal coils or plates. Unlike woven or welded mesh, which joins individual wires or components, expanded metal is formed from a single solid sheet—resulting in a structure with no welds, no joints, and no weak points. Combining solid sheet and wire mesh benefits, it provides high strength, structural support, precise conductivity control, and allows air, water, and light passage. It resists unraveling during fabrication, making it ideal for lightning protection, fuel cells, industrial/automotive filters, and high-precision EMI shielding or grounding in high-voltage labs.

Processing

  • Cutting and slitting the material to the request shape and length.
  • Annealing before punching, forming or other process.
  • Stamping the material into the request configurations for specific usages.

Expanded Metal Mesh Advantages

  • Superior Cost-Effectiveness & Material Utilization
The expanding process transforms a small quantity of metal into large sheet panels, reducing the material volume required to fulfill orders and lowering material costs accordingly. In addition, the process produces almost no material waste.
  • Enhanced Electrical Conductivity
As expanded metal is manufactured from a single, continuous sheet of metal, it outperforms fabricated metal sheets significantly in electrical conductivity, magnetic flux transmission and thermal conductivity.
  • Higher Strength & Structural Stability
Expanded metal mesh retains most of the strength of the base material and delivers better load-bearing capacity and stress resistance than woven or welded wire mesh. It can also be reinforced with glass, concrete or other materials for even greater strength and stability.
  • Lighter Weight
Featuring cut and expanded openings, expanded metal mesh is considerably lighter than solid metal sheets of the same dimensions.
  • Easier Handling & Fabrication
Expanded metal mesh is simple to cut, form and machine.
  • Broader Performance Characteristics
Expanded metal mesh possesses numerous exceptional properties that make it suitable for diverse applications. It allows free airflow and light transmission, can be used to enhance or dampen sound transfer, and can undergo various surface treatments — such as anti-slip finishes or barrier treatments — to meet the requirements of different facilities.
